Legalism and Me….

Yesterday, I wrote a little about getting rid of elements that are toxic in your relationship with Christ.

But there is a struggle that follows doing this that has plagued the church for years. We are tempted to put the new rules we have for ourselves on others.

So, DON’T! This is what we call legalism.  Here is a good working definition of legalism:  Legalism is when you make your APPLICATION of a Scriptural PRINCIPAL a RULE for everyone else.

Think of legalism like this: The Bible clearly says that we are to love our neighbors.  So you decide that the very best way to love your neighbor is to take them a plate of homemade cookies every Monday night.  That is what you do.  So you go to church next Sunday and say that every one needs to take cookies to their neighbors every Monday night or they don’t love them or Jesus.  You have taken YOUR application and made it a RULE for everyone.

Where have you seen legalism rear it’s ugly head?
